6 Of The Best Quirky Wedding Venues in the North East

You’re either reading this as you’re looking for a funky and fabulous wedding venue or looking for a North East Wedding photographer; either way, welcome! Take a look at our guide below on some of the quirkiest wedding venues available in the North East!

Life Centre, Newcastle

It’s not just for kids, the Life Centre also holds extraordinary weddings (ideal for big kids too)!

Fancy getting married under the stars? Well you’re in the right place, as this is the home of the largest planetarium in the North. With its 360 degree digital screen and reclining chairs for your guests, where else would you choose?

This also means that you can stay warm and cosy inside and still experience the magnificent night sky - how romantic!

Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle

Are you a film lover or always wanted to tread the boards? If so, then how about being married on stage in the art deco 1930’s stunning Tyneside Cinema!

Fully licensed for civil ceremonies; throw in some popcorn and canapes and you have yourself a wedding.

You can also make it even more jazzy by incorporating music or film into your ceremony.

Great North Museum, Newcastle

If you’re passionate about the North East and want that WOW factor for your wedding, then the Great North Hancock Museum is the venue for you!

They recommend that you have your ceremony in the Hadrian’s Wall room, where you overlook a full-sized T-Rex (there’s not many venues that provide this!) followed by drinks in their Natural Northumbria Gallery that celebrates everything that makes the North East what it is.

There’s also the option of having your evening reception in the double tiered Living Planet Gallery alongside a giant elephant and other weird and wonderful creatures (we mean the museum exhibits, not your guests)!

HMS Trincomalee, Hartlepool

Berthed in the historic Georgian Quayside of Hartlepool, if you’re after nautical nuptials, look no further.

You could become the captain for the day and say ‘I DO’ in the Captain’s Cabin. There’s also the equally delightful Sir William Grey Suite or Baltic Suite.

The ship also accommodates 70+ guests depending on your choice of suite. So plenty of room to go around.

Old Gaol, Hexham

If you’re a history buff or just love historic buildings then the oldest purpose-built prison is right up your street - quite literally if you live in Hexham!

With a choice of medieval rooms that give you a small and intimate wedding for up to 30 guests, this will certainly be a day to remember.

There’s also the beautiful and historical market town of Hexham metres away to go and explore and get those special photos from your North East wedding photographer…

St Mary’s Lighthouse, Tynemouth

Another somewhat nautical venue here from the Tynemouth coast.

St Mary’s Lighthouse is steeped in history, constructed in 1898 and operational until 1984. It’s certainly a North East wonder that most people hold dear to their hearts.

With availability to host up to 50 guests, there’s surely more than enough room to get all your loved ones over that causeway to celebrate. You can even climb the 137 steps if you’re feeling fit and want that magical view of the North Sea!
