As a pair of rather good (if we do say so ourselves!) photographers from right here in the stunning North East of England, we’re very lucky to visit some of the incredible, quirky, beautiful and downright amazing wedding venues we’ve got to offer in our region.
We’ve put together this guide to help you on your quest to find the perfect wedding venue - as every wedding is unique, we’ve tried to include as many as we can to really showcase what the North East has got to offer.

With no fewer than four separate wedding spaces, the South Causey Inn, found in Stanley, County Durham, has a bit of something for everyone!
The South Causey has become increasingly popular in recent years thanks to its stunning rustic vibes, amazing wedding spaces and ability to cater for weddings of all sizes.

The Parlour At Blagdon, Newcastle
Just down the road from the amazing Northumberlandia installation, the Parlour at Blagdon is a beautiful intimate venue in Northumberland.
The Parlour has two options for ceremonies: you can either get married in the grade 2 listed smithy, or choose to have it outdoors instead in the landscape gardens.
One of the best things about the Parlour is you get complete exclusivity during your wedding - there’ll be nobody popping into restaurants for their tea, or other weddings going on at the same time either.
The Parlour also has several bedrooms with space for up to 8 guests.

The Croft Hotel, Darlington
Newly revamped for 2023 by the Apartment Group which owns several of the North East’s most beautiful wedding venues, the Croft is stylish, contemporary and quite unlike anything else.
Found in Darlington, the Croft has a beautiful Secret Garden Chapel. The room really speaks for itself; but with floor to ceiling mirrors, a stunning stone walkway and floral backdrops, it makes for a wedding photo that you’ll treasure forever.
We forsee The Croft becoming one of the must-have destinations for weddings in the north east in the near future, so definitely keep it high on your list!

Le Petit Chateau, Otterburn
When you visit Le Petit Chateau, honestly, you’d have a hard time believing you’re still in the North East!
This stunning 30 bed boutique hotel is found in Otterburn, Northumberland and combines together rustic French charm with modern decor and amenities.
The venue is perhaps most famous for its Belle Epoque French Chapel ceremony room, but there’s also the option of getting married outside on The Terrace if you’re more of the outdoorsy type.
You can even make your wedding even bigger despite this venue’s Petit nature (sorry, not sorry for that pun) - you can rent out the space for an entire weekend of festivities!

As the name suggests, this treehouse venue is legitimately up in the trees amidst the stunning backdrop of Alnwick Gardens.

We have genuinely in our entire lives never seen a chandelier as impressive as the one at Derwent Manor Hotel.
Their Grand Hall boasts this incredible chandelier, but the venue itself also has two other smaller wedding suites available including a Garden Room.

Runa Farm, Barnard Castle
Another venue from the Apartment Group, Runa Farm is all about the rustic life.
Originally another wedding venue, Apartment Group took the original farm and upgraded it into one of the most desired wedding venues in the North East.
The Runa Farm Chapel, in particular, is a massive highlight. The chapel is beautifully decorated and even features an iconic staircase for the bride to come down when they arrive.
The Old Barn, just next door, is huge in size and offers plenty of space for your after-ceremony reception.

Doxford Barns, Chathill
Billed as ‘The Barn that Breaks the Mould’, Doxford is in the middle of a private 550-ace country estate, just outside of Alnwick, Northumberland.
The main ceremony room is a fully-restored barn with chandeliers, original stone fireplace and so much more.
Doxford also offers extended weddings, where you can stay for two or even three days to really party and celebrate your wedding to the fullest!

It’s been around since the 15th Century, but after the Apartment Group got their hands on it, Lartington Hall is set to become one of the most popular wedding destinations here in the North East.

They call themselves a ‘hidden gem in the heart of County Durham!’ and….they’re right!
Bradbury Glade is just near Sedgefield, and unless you knew it was there, you’d honestly have no idea.
They’ve taken a beautiful countryside location and turned it into a stunning woodland wedding glade, complete with tepees, 60 acres of forest, onsite bar, firepits and loads of privacy for your wedding too.

The Story, Durham Registry Office
You may have visited the old Durham Registry Office for a wedding; this is the new and improved Registry Office!
Newly opened in 2024, The Story Durham is a Grade II listed Georgian Manor (fancy!) that is a photograher’s dream, with huge windows allowing for natural light and landscaped grounds. Not to mention its three different sized ceremony rooms - there’s something for everyone!
And if you’re looking for something even more intimate, they also offer their couple and two witnesses ceremonies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

As Crystal was born and bred in Stanley, she’s quite fond of Beamish Hall and as a wedding venue it does not disappoint!
With the elegant and dark wooded Shafto Room for larger ceremonies, The Common Room for a more intimate feel and outdoor ceremonies available (if the weather plays ball) you’re spolit for choice in this Grade II listed Hall.
But fear not, if you’re after a larger evening-do for disco dancing times, The Winter Gradens can hold up to 300 people on the evening!
There’s a secret swing in the garden (shhhh) where we can take you for some unique wedding photos too!

As a pair of wedding photographers, we love a good hall. Redworth Hall in Newton Aycliffe boasts some truly stunning grounds, beautifully framed by the stunning hotel, making for the perfect backdrop for those posey photos!
Redworth is all about elegance. Its wedding ceremony room has opulent chandeliers and just screams weddings - it can be set up how you like, and there’s a bit of something for everyone there!

Sheepfolds Stables, Sunderland
If you’re a Sunderland fan then this is the ideal location for your wedding, right next door to the Stadium of Light! But fear not, if football is not your thing, these newly renovated stables will blow your socks off.
We were lucky enough to be the first EVER photograhers to shoot a wedding here, as Sheepfolds still hadn’t officially opened (it helps that the best man was the architect) and we were astonished by what was on offer!
With the cobbled courtyard, multitude of food and drink vendors and original features, it’s a venue that has history (140 years, in fact) but also a modern twist.
There’s two rooms to choose from for your wedding, The Hayloft and The Bridlepath (which you can see above), has amazing uninterrupted views of the River Wear.

This place really will give your wedding a touch of magic - they’ve even got the old Ford Anglia which flew Harry and Ron to Hogwarts in Chamber of the Secrets!

Spanish City, Whitley Bay
Originally founded in 1910, Spanish City, was originally founded as a mini version of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, complete with concert hall, restaurant, roof garden and tearoom. Then in the 1920s, it was further expanded to include a ballroom and funfair.
Unfortunately by 1990, this once grand venue had fell into disrepair. Then a brand new project to reinvigorate Spanish City was born; it reopened in 2018, and is now available as a truly unique wedding venue right here in the North East!
Literally situated on the Whitley Bay seafront, Spanish City is a stunning building quite unlike any other. Its iconic dome on the roof is the perfect backdrop for some photos, and the upstairs area of its circular inside make the perfect backdrop for your wedding reception too.
If you fancy some fish and chips, downstairs Spanish City also has an award-winning chippy restaurant too.
